Whether you are chasing that buck of a lifetime, or just relaxing on your boat catching a few fish, don’t let your time in the field be ruined by avoidable accidents. Always tell someone where you are going to be. The saying “plan your hunt and hunt your plan” goes for both hunting and fishing. Be prepared for the unexpected. Keep a first aid kit in your backpack, on your boat, or in your truck. Always have enough life jackets on your boat to accommodate all your passengers. When hunting from a treestand always wear a safety harness. No one ever goes hunting or fishing and expects to fall out of the boat or tree but it does happen. Serious injury can be prevented by having and wearing the proper safety equipment. Always follow the game codes and safety rules for your state.
Firearm safety These three rules must be followed when handling a firearm.
1. Treat every gun as if it is loaded. If you are not sure if the gun was unloaded, check it again.
2. Know your target and what lies beyond it. If you can not see what is beyond what you are aiming at, do not shoot. No game is worth an injury to someone else.
3. Always keep the muzzle of your gun pointed in a safe direction. Never point your gun at something you don”t intend to shoot.
Remember, safety first.
